El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele announced a fresh Bitcoin purchase to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the country’s Bitcoin Law. On Sunday, Bukele shared the news, stating: “Buying 21 Bitcoin for Bitcoin Day.”
El Salvador’s Bitcoin Holdings Reach $701.8 Million
With the latest addition, the country’s treasury acquired 21 BTC, worth approximately $2.3 million at current market prices. This brings El Salvador’s total Bitcoin holdings to 6,313 BTC, with a current value of around $701.8 million.

Commitment to the Bitcoin Strategy
El Salvador became the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender in September 2021. Since then, the country has periodically come into the spotlight with its official BTC purchases.
The National Bitcoin Office of El Salvador recently announced that the nation’s holdings had been distributed across 14 different addresses, a move aimed at strengthening security against potential quantum threats.
Moreover, just last month, the country’s legislative assembly passed a new law allowing major financial institutions to offer Bitcoin and digital asset services to “sophisticated investors.”
Daily BTC Purchase Program
According to Bukele’s statements, El Salvador continues to purchase 1 BTC per day. However, this program contradicts official claims in IMF loan agreement reports, which suggested that the country had halted its Bitcoin purchases.
Responding to these allegations, Bukele stated:
“No, it’s not stopping. If it didn’t stop when the world isolated us and most ‘bitcoiners’ abandoned us, it won’t stop now, and it won’t stop in the future.”
Bitcoin Policy and Future Plans
El Salvador’s Bitcoin investments remain at the core of the country’s long-term financial strategy. The Bukele administration views BTC purchases as a path toward economic independence and financial innovation.
