After completing his prison sentence in the U.S. at the end of September and returning to Dubai, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) revealed in an interview with Bloomberg that he has received offers for his shares in Binance. When asked if he had decided to sell his shares after stepping down from his position within the company, CZ stated that he has not yet made a final decision. This has sparked the question in the crypto world: “Will CZ completely sever ties with Binance?”

In the interview, Changpeng Zhao expressed his reluctance to return to his former role, saying, “I was always content with my position at the company, but perhaps an era is coming to a close.” He added, “That kid has grown up. I’m just like a simple shareholder now,” emphasizing that he no longer holds an active role within the company.

While he did not go into details regarding the potential sale of his shares, CZ said, “I’ve received some offers, but there hasn’t been any development yet.” He clarified that the process of determining his position in Binance has not yet been finalized.

CZ also noted that he does not find comparisons to former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) appropriate. Emphasizing that SBF misused user funds, CZ stated, “He stole people’s money. I, on the other hand, failed in regulatory compliance. Those are not the same thing.”

As the former CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao clarified that he no longer holds any decision-making authority in the company and that his role is solely at the shareholder level.
