Coinbase has announced that a new tool called “Based Agent” allows users to create AI-powered agents in less than three minutes. These agents are designed to manage on-chain transactions and can perform tasks such as buying, selling, swapping and staking by integrating with crypto wallets.
Coinbase Announces Based Agent
Coinbase developer Lincoln Murr stated in a video shared on the X platform that Based Agent offers an easily customizable template. With this template, users can create an agent that can connect to smart contracts, perform swap transactions, trade and staking. All it takes for installation is an API key from Coinbase’s development program, a key from OpenAI and a copy of the template via Replit.
This development comes after Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong recently argued that AI-based agents should be able to operate independently in the crypto world. Armstrong noted that giving AI agents an independent crypto wallet is an innovative step, and that the tool allows users to create their own agents in less than three minutes.
Coinbase protocol head Jesse Pollak also noted that an AI agent called “Luna” independently provides on-chain tipping on the X platform. Such innovations point to a future where the majority of blockchain transactions are conducted by AI agents. Mode Network founder James Ross predicts that 80% of blockchain transactions will be managed by AI agents in the next 6 to 12 months.
