Republican Party’s presidential candidate Donald Trump has reportedly received $4 million in crypto donations so far. Among the donated cryptocurrencies, four coins stand out.
As U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump prepares for his much-anticipated speech at the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville this weekend, the amount of crypto donations he has received has been revealed.
Meme Coin Donations Included
According to a report by CNBC, Trump received $4 million in crypto between April 1 and June 30. The majority of the donated cryptocurrencies were Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, and USDC. In addition to these, numerous meme coins were also donated, though specific names were not disclosed. Of the $4 million total, $2.15 million came from Bitcoin alone.
Donations Made to “Trump 47” Committee
The donations were made to “Trump 47,” one of the committees raising funds for Trump. During the same period, the committee raised a total of $118 million. In the U.S., all election donations must be reported to the Federal Election Commission. A 1,000-page report on this matter was submitted to the commission.
Refunds to Winklevoss Twins
It’s worth noting that the Winklevoss twins, owners of the Gemini exchange, each donated $1 million to Trump. However, because the legal limit for individual donations is $844,000, these contributions were refunded. Therefore, the Winklevoss twins’ donations are not included in the $4 million figure.
Donation from BitGo CEO Mike Belshe
Mike Belshe, CEO of digital asset security and custody firm BitGo, also donated $50,000 in Bitcoin to Trump.
These crypto donations to Trump highlight the evolving landscape of political campaigns in the digital age and the role cryptocurrencies can play in funding political activities. Trump’s upcoming speech in Nashville is expected to make significant waves in the crypto community.
