Donald Trump, President-elect of the United States, has announced the appointment of David Sacks, former COO of PayPal and now an entrepreneur, as the “White House AI and Crypto Leader.”
In a December 6 statement on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump emphasized that Sacks would work to provide the regulatory clarity that the crypto industry has long sought. Trump stated, “These sectors are critical to the future of American competitiveness.”
Sacks will also be tasked with protecting online free speech, countering the oppressive practices of big tech companies, and leading the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Who Is David Sacks?
David Sacks is a seasoned veteran in the tech world. Known as one of the early executives at PayPal, he is also the co-founder of the social business network Yammer, which was sold to Microsoft for $1.2 billion in 2012. Today, Sacks co-hosts the business-focused podcast All In and is a co-founder of the venture capital firm Craft Ventures.
A memecoin named after Sacks, launched earlier this year, surged by 16,000% within hours of Trump’s announcement. This coin, which had been dormant since March, has reignited investor interest.
