Eclipse, the Ethereum layer 2 blockchain is involved in a controversy as its founder and CEO, Neel Somani, steps back from his public role for a while in the face of sexual misconduct allegations. Somani, determined to prove his innocence, pledges to have his name cleared as the company leadership faces the untenable.
Reacts to the recent accusations that were made on Twitter X, Somani straight away says in a statement, “Serious allegations have been made against me on Twitter. These allegations are false”. Not guilty but in the same time he announced that he would elevate the situation with great respect and seriousness. “I never raped or sexually assaulted any woman,” he emphasized, reiterating his resolve to fight the allegations.
Realizing the seriousness fo the accusations, Somani believed that the senior leadership of Eclipse would perform the duties during his absence, allowing for open debates that would reveal the truth. The same attitude was repeated by the company in another X blog, confirming the company’s commitment to integrity and gender equality among its staff.
Although Somani and Eclipse were asked to comment on the matter repeatedly, neither of them responded right away, which meant that observers had to wait for the further developments. This is coming after Eclipse got $50 million during its Series A funding round in March, which was spearheaded by Hack VC and Placeholder, giving its total capital as $65 million. The firm also successfully hit a major milestone in September last year when the firm launched its Ethereum Layer 2 Mainnet.
While Eclipse finds its way through this problematic period, the world of industry carefully observes, waiting in anticipation and wishing to have understanding in all the allegations about the CEO.
