The organization behind Ethereum Naming Service (ENS), ENS Labs, announced today the launch of its own Layer 2 network called Namechain. Namechain is expected to go live by the end of 2025.
ENS, developed by ENS Labs, is a decentralized naming system on the Ethereum blockchain that provides readable names for crypto addresses, similar to the Domain Name System (DNS). Now, ENS Labs is rolling out a Layer 2 solution called Namechain to enhance the user experience.
During the “frENSday” event in Bangkok, ENS co-founder Jeff Lau stated, “In the sector, the success of rollups is usually measured by TVL. However, we don’t need to prioritize TVL; ENS already has users, and we can focus on features that other Layer 2 networks can’t offer.” Lau emphasized that Namechain focuses on L2-L2 bridging integration and will enable users to make payments through the Layer 2 network they choose while bridging.
According to ENS Labs, Namechain, built on zero-knowledge technology, will maintain Ethereum’s security at a lower cost and manage transactions outside the main Ethereum network. The launch of Namechain is expected by the end of 2025.
