Ethereum Researcher Proposes Solution to Fix Centralization Issues!

Ethereum

A new proposal by pseudonymous Ethereum researcher “Malik672” aims to democratize the block proposer process and eliminate Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) manipulation.

Revolutionizing the Block Proposal System!

Published on March 1, the “Decentralized Random Block Proposal” introduces a Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT)-based algorithm to fully decentralize block building and accelerate transaction propagation across the network.

While Ethereum’s Proof-of-Stake model and proposer-builder separation (PBS) have mitigated MEV concentration to some extent, block production has become more centralized.

Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter reported that in early October, two block builders were responsible for 88.7% of Ethereum blocks. Although this number has dropped to around 80%, it remains a significant centralization concern.

How This Proposal Eliminates MEV!

According to Malik672, the new system would:

  • Distribute block building across thousands of clients, eliminating central control.
  • Prevent MEV-based manipulation, ensuring fair transaction processing.
  • Restore Ethereum’s trustless and decentralized ethos.
  • Reduce slot times from 12 seconds to 6-8 seconds.

This proposal aligns with Ethereum developers’ decision on February 13 to accelerate the network’s upgrade cadence for a more efficient technical roadmap.
