The Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization sector is projected to surpass $30 trillion by 2030, with financial institutions driving its expansion. RWA tokenization refers to transforming physical and financial assets into digital tokens on the blockchain, improving investor accessibility and increasing trading opportunities.
Jesse Knutson, Head of Operations at Bitfinex Securities, stated that nimble institutions such as family offices are already at the forefront of this movement, and the growing crypto market is likely to influence the tokenization industry. The market for tokenized assets is anticipated to grow over 50 times by 2030.
Currently valued at $185 billion, the RWA tokenization market is still largely dominated by stablecoins, which make up over $170 billion of the total market as of October 2024. Securities and treasuries tokenized on-chain currently account for just $2.2 billion, indicating significant potential for growth.
Large financial institutions like BlackRock and UBS Asset Management are already piloting tokenization projects, signaling the increasing adoption of digital assets in the traditional financial world.
