France State Bank Allocates Funds for Crypto Projects!

Bpifrance has announced plans to invest €25 million ($27 million) in cryptocurrencies to support local crypto and blockchain projects.

France’s Move to Strengthen the Blockchain Ecosystem

France’s state-backed investment bank Bpifrance aims to bolster local crypto startups by investing in projects focused on decentralized finance (DeFi), staking, tokenization, and artificial intelligence.

In a March 27 press release, Bpifrance stated that this plan, supported by the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, is designed to “promote emerging technologies and strengthen France’s blockchain ecosystem.”

Bpifrance Deputy CEO Arnaud Caudoux emphasized:

“We believe blockchain companies will play an increasingly important role in the coming years, and we want to enhance France’s competitiveness in the digital assets sector.”

He also noted the growing U.S. crypto strategy, stating, “The U.S. is really accelerating its crypto strategy, so this move is even more important for us.”

Bpifrance’s Previous Crypto Investments

Bpifrance highlighted its decade-long involvement in the blockchain sector, having invested over €150 million ($162 million) in various projects.

Notably, the bank helped fund the crypto hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger in 2014. Additionally, in 2022, Bpifrance tested token-based investments by purchasing Morpho’s DeFi lending tokens, which have since become the 12th largest DeFi protocol with a total value of $3.24 billion, according to DefiLlama.

France Expands Its Crypto Investments

Crypto projects often raise capital through token-based investments. PitchBook estimates that crypto venture capital deals could exceed $18 billion in 2025, up from $13.6 billion in 2024.
