A Coinbase spokesman said that the political action committee (PAC) Future Forward has onboarded Coinbase Commerce to receive bitcoin donations.
As of Sept. 4, Future Forward is among the top Democratic and liberal-leaning PACs by amount raised—roughly $164 million—according to OpenSecrets. Originally helping President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, he withdrew from the race and is now providing funds for Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.
Supporting a wide spectrum of assets, Coinbase Commerce is a payment tool that rapidly settles transactions. Based on its website, the platform automatically converts the customers selected currency into the stablecoin USDC to lower volatility.
Apart from supporting MATIC, USDC, and Wrapped Ether (WESH) on Polygon, Coinbase Commerce takes ApeCoin, Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, DAI, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, SHIBA INU, Tether, and USDC as of September. The Trump campaign accepted bitcoin donations in May using Coinbase Commerce.
Earlier today Fortune revealed that Alesia Haas, the Chief Financial Officer of Coinbase, said the Harris campaign would start receiving crypto donations. Contrary to earlier accounts, the words of the Future Forward spokesman suggest that the PAC is subtly taking crypto payments on behalf of Harris instead of her campaign itself.
