According to a new report, Google has further increased its investment in AI initiative Anthropic with an additional 2 billion dollars. Google has already invested $500 million as part of its investment in Anthropic and will pay the remaining $1.5 billion over time. In addition, Google Cloud has made a multi-year agreement worth over 3 billion dollars with Anthropic, according to information announced by WSJ a few months ago.
This development came after Amazon’s massive 4 billion dollars investment in Anthropic last month. Anthropic uses a large portion of these investments to train artificial intelligence systems like AI assistant Claude, aiming to revolutionize the AI industry.

On the other hand, OpenAI, which has received over 13 billion dollars in funding from Microsoft since 2019 alone, continues to develop more sophisticated versions of its AI chat bot ChatGPT. This popular chatbot attracted over 100 million users in the first two months after its launch in November, capturing the attention of many venture capital companies worldwide interested to invest in this area.
Dario and Daniela Amodei, siblings and founders of Anthropic, previously worked with OpenAI but left in 2021 due to disagreements about security related to building AI systems with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Before Google and Amazon, Sam Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of FTX, provided approximately $530 million in financing to a significant portion of the AI firm Anthropic about seven months prior to FTX’s crash.
The rise in Anthropic’s value is seen as hope of full compensation for FTX’s creditors.
