After transitioning to Ethereum’s Layer 2 solution, Lisk announced on November 12, 2024, that it has officially launched on mainnet. Originally launched as a Layer 1 platform in 2016, Lisk integrated into Ethereum’s Layer 2 ecosystem at the end of 2023, and with this move, the LSK token was also migrated to the Ethereum network. Lisk is now set to distribute 15 million LSK tokens through an airdrop campaign aimed at increasing interest in its ecosystem and attracting new users to the platform.
The Lisk testnet was launched earlier this year in February, and the platform is supported by Optimism’s OP Stack development framework, which helps make the network faster and more scalable. Additionally, Gelato’s rollup-as-a-service solution is expected to enhance transaction speeds. This robust infrastructure is designed to strengthen Lisk and expand its reach to a larger user base.
The airdrop campaign will begin on November 21 and will last for four months. Users can collect points by completing tasks on the platform, and the number of points they accumulate will determine how many LSK tokens they receive. Lisk aims to make this campaign not only a way to distribute tokens but also to provide users with an engaging and educational experience. Dominic Schwenter, the platform’s COO, stated that the goal of the campaign is not just to give out tokens, but also to help users understand web3 technology.
Moreover, Lisk’s transition to Layer 2 is not just a technical move. This shift highlights the platform’s growing interest in real-world assets and decentralized physical infrastructure networks. This step lays the foundation for Lisk’s future potential, marking the transition as not only a technical milestone but also a significant ecosystem change and a step toward creating new opportunities.
