Microsoft to Discuss Bitcoin Investment at Shareholder Meeting

Microsoft

Microsoft has added a “Bitcoin investment evaluation” proposal among the voting items for the annual shareholder meeting to be held on December 10, 2024. However, the company’s board of directors recommends voting against this proposal. The proposal was brought by the National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank that sits on Project 2025’s advisory board.

Microsoft’s filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) states that the board of directors found this proposal “unnecessary”. The company reported that it has already conducted rigorous assessments in this area and that “Microsoft’s Global Treasury and Investment Services team continually evaluates investment options that meet criteria such as providing diversification and inflation protection to fund operations.” It also stated that Bitcoin and other crypto assets were among the previous evaluations, but that such investments should be carefully reviewed due to volatility.

If the proposal is approved, Microsoft would become the largest publicly traded crypto investor, surpassing companies like MicroStrategy and Tesla.
