The Holograph attack is a complex attack pattern on the protocol, a blockchain token platform in the Omnichain ecosystem. On June 13, a malicious actor used the protocol’s operator contract to mint 1 billion native Holograph (HLG) tokens worth $14.4 million using a proxy budget. The attack caused a drop in the value of HLG, which fell by almost 80% in nine hours, from $0.014 to $0.0029.

Following the attack, Holograph, a blockchain research firm used by Halborn, launched an extensive investigation. The investigation revealed the involvement of a “disgruntled former contractor.” Holograph later released a detailed death report on July 2, shedding light on the techniques used in the attack.
