Nasdaq Withdraws Bids to List Bitcoin, Ethereum Options

Nasdaq Bitcoin Etf

Exchange Nasdaq ISE, LLC, registered two notices on Thursday withdrawing bids to list and trade options on both spot Bitcoin and Ethereum. Files on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s website show that the trade withdrew both of those plans on Tuesday.

“The proposal was published for comment in the Federal Register on August 12, 2024,” the file for the Bitcoin ETF proposal said. “The Commission got no comments concerning the proposal. The Exchange withdrew the proposal on August 13, 2024.”

Over the past week, several exchanges have also dropped offers. MIAX, MIAX Pearl, and BOX Exchange pulled bids for trading options and launched on-spot Bitcoin ETFs. Last week, Cboe also withdrew its application to list options on spot Bitcoin ETFs; subsequently, it re-filed it, suggesting perhaps SEC involvement in the process. Trading option products for spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs has not been permitted by the regulator.

Additionally, on Thursday, NYSE American LLC withdrew its request to list and trade options on the Grayscale Bitcoin ETF and the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF.

James Seyffart, a Bloomberg Intelligence Analyst, said he anticipated Nasdaq and NYSE refiling their bids for listing and trading options on spot bitcoin ETFs in the not-too-distant future.

NASDAQ and NYSE have joined CBOE in withdrawing their applications for allowing options to trade on the Bitcoin ETFs,'” Seyffart said in a Thursday X post. “Like we observed from CBOE, I’m expecting them to re-file over the next few days or weeks.”
