Pump.fun, a Solana-based memecoin launchpad, has made significant changes to its platform by eliminating token deployment costs for creators. Instead, the first buyer of a memecoin will now cover the token creation fee, which was previously set at 0.02 SOL (approximately $3). In addition, Pump.fun will reward creators with 0.5 SOL (around $80) when their tokens cross the bonding curve.
This change allows creators to launch tokens without needing to purchase any of their own supply. As announced on X, Pump.fun stated that this new approach “unlocks the use case of someone creating a coin without buying any of its supply.”
The 0.5 SOL reward will be given to memecoin creators regardless of whether they have ever held the tokens they created. The reward is funded through the platform’s migration fee, which currently stands at 1.5 SOL.

Pump.fun has gained popularity during the recent memecoin boom, attracting users with its user-friendly interface and Solana’s low transaction fees. The platform has become a hub for creating a wide range of tokens, including political-themed cryptocurrencies, celebrity tokens, and other meme coins. Once a token reaches a certain market cap, a portion of its liquidity is transferred to the Raydium decentralized exchange.
Pump.fun operates using a bonding curve model, where the price of a coin increases predictably as more people buy it. Each coin starts at a base price, and as demand grows, the price steps up accordingly. This model ensures liquidity by maintaining a continuous market for the coin, making price movements more predictable for both buyers and sellers.
