As known, Binance was fined in 2023 for crimes such as money laundering and had agreed to pay a $4.3 billion fine.
US prosecutors have appealed to a federal judge and demanded that Binance accept the defense agreement. Also, according to prosecutors, Binance knowingly and intentionally violated the country’s economic sanctions laws and deserved its penalty for this reason.
The prosecutors added that high-ranking company executives were also involved, and this situation resulted in consequences worth millions of dollars.
According to a defense agreement in a federal court in Seattle, Binance can be monitored for 5 years systematically.
In addition, another opinion of the prosecutors was as follows:
Binance was not implementing an anti-money laundering program and was using the US financial system and its customers for its interests.
Moreover, the former CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao (CZ) had already clarified this situation by accepting the allegations that he laundered money. As expected, there is a possibility that CZ may be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. However, there is also a defense agreement stating that he cannot be sentenced to more than 18 months.
