Originally chosen as the official avatar for Toncoin via several community channels, the memecoin “Resistance Dog” (REDO), the biggest memecoin on the Ton blockchain, witnessed a market surge of over 140%.
Ton creators launched this more broadly as a memecoin avatar adoption project in line with what it refers to as the “DigitalResistance” campaign. This avatar substitutes a white cartoon dog with a hood for the former Ton blockchain logo.
The central developers reported using the “Resistance Dog” avatar on their X account and main Telegram channel. The action followed the detention in France over the weekend of Pavel Durov, the creator of Telegram and a major player in the Ton blockchain.
On Monday, the team said, “In support of DigitalResistance, we are updating Toncoin’s logo and profile pictures across TON Community channels to the global symbol of Digital Resistance—tthe Resistance Dog.”
From $0.35 to almost $0.85 before settling back to $0.63 at the time of writing, the token jumped more than 140% on Monday following the news. Right now, the market capitalization of the coin is $65 million.
According to a Tribunal Judiciaire de Paris announcement, Durov was taken into police detention in France last Saturday under a cybercrime investigation alleging service and tool provision. Previous investigations have revealed Telegram’s poor cooperation on content moderation concerns with law enforcement.
