Roaring Kitty-themed memecoins — GME, KITTY, and ROAR — have experienced dramatic increases in value. Keith Gill, the investor known as “Roaring Kitty,” announced his return to YouTube, leading to a surge in the price of GameStop shares.
Roaring Kitty-themed memecoins posted triple-digit gains after GameStop shares surged in the past 24 hours.
According to CoinGecko data, GME, KITTY, and ROAR memecoins gained 160%, 330%, and 150% respectively and are currently trading at $0.03088, $0.0377, and $0.001584 respectively.
GameStop shares rose in premarket trading Friday after Keith Gill, the investor known as “Roaring Kitty,” announced he would appear on YouTube for the first time in three years. Gill had previously encouraged individual investors to back the video game chain.
The Roaring Kitty YouTube channel has more than 700,000 subscribers, and Gill has announced a livestream is planned for today. Following this announcement, the price of GameStop shares rose 31% to $61.21.
GME is a Solana-based meme coin that uses the same symbol as GameStop shares but has no official affiliation with the video game retailer. ROAR and KITTY are themed around Gill’s Roaring Kitty online persona, who was involved in a short squeeze on GameStop shares three years ago, but has no official connection to the investor.
The GMCI Meme Index, the index tracking the largest meme coins by market cap, was down 1.48% at 366.34 at press time.
