On July 11, Soccerverse, the blockchain-based sports simulation game under the same name, announced a $3.1 million financing round headed by Japanese gaming behemoth Square-Enix.
Investment and Support from Industry Leaders
With participation from former investor Hiro Capital as well, the most recent investment round takes Soccerverse’s total raising to $4 million. Originally well-known for releasing the Final Fantasy series, Square-Enix has since actively participated in Soccerverse.

Blockchain-Based Football Management Simulation
Currently experimental, Soccerverse runs on the Polygon blockchain and provides a sports simulation experience akin to the Football Manager series. While remaining free-to-play, the game lets players assume several roles—such as coaching a team or portraying a player—and integrates web3 capabilities.
For Soccerverse, the timing of this financing round might prove to be very important. Though popular, football management simulations are not usually seen as mainstream. But the forthcoming release of the newest Football Manager series entry by Sega and Sports Interactive, which uses a Unity game engine and an improved interface, might create a lot of interest in the genre.
