Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Arrested in France for Multiple Offenses

Telegram Ceo Pavel Durov

According to a credible French news source, TF1, Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov has been detained in France and taken under custody by agents of France’s National Anti-Fraud Office.

Traveling with a girlfriend and his bodyguard from Azerbaijan to Paris’s Le Bourget airport, which solely serves private jets, Durov allegedly got arrested. Based on a preliminary investigation, Durov was the target of a search order issued by OFMIN, an investigative organization fighting child sexual exploitation in France, according to the article.

Given his arrest order was only valid on French territory, the news article observed that the billionaire Durov usually travels very infrequently in Europe, maybe in an effort to avoid being arrested by this very method. “He made a mistake tonight. We don’t know why… Was this flight just a stopover? In any case, he’s locked up,” according to a source allegedly speaking French to TF1.

TF1 projects Durov would visit an investigating judge on Saturday night before a likely indictment on Sunday for “many offenses: terrorism, drugs, complicity, fraud, money laundering, receiving stolen goods, pedocriminal content,” and maybe more.

Pavel Durov will end up in pre-trial detention, that’s certain. On his platform, he allowed countless offenses and crimes to be committed for which he does nothing to moderate or cooperate,” an investigator from France’s National Anti-Fraud Office (ONAF), who placed Durov in custody, reportedly told the news site.

As of publishing time, Toncoin, Telegram’s native cryptocurrency, dropped around 16% on the news.
