Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has been released from custody following a four-day interrogation, according to a report by the Associated Press. French prosecutors announced that Durov was questioned due to allegations that Telegram was being used for illegal activities.
The Paris prosecutor’s office stated that the investigating judge decided to end Durov’s police custody and has arranged for him to appear in court for an initial hearing, which could lead to formal charges.
Durov was detained at Le Bourget airport, located outside Paris, last month as part of a judicial investigation that includes 12 alleged offenses. Among the accusations against the French citizen are claims that his platform has been utilized for the distribution of child exploitation materials, drug trafficking, fraud, and organized crime activities. Additionally, Durov is accused of refusing to cooperate with investigators by withholding information or documents when required by law.
