India’s largest health insurer, Star Health and Allied Insurance, became the target of a cyber attack in which customer data, including sensitive personal and medical information, was leaked through Telegram chatbots. The stolen data was made available for sale, raising concerns nationwide about the platform’s role in illegal activities.
The leaked data, reportedly available via Telegram bots operated by a group called “xenZen,” includes names, phone numbers, addresses, tax details, ID cards, medical test results, and diagnoses of millions of customers. Despite the bot being taken down, the group warned that it would create another bot if necessary, underscoring the persistent threat.

This incident has put additional scrutiny on Telegram, which has already been under investigation in India due to its alleged use in illegal activities such as extortion and gambling.
