Turkish Digital Bank BankPozitif to Launch Crypto Custody Services

Pozitif

Turkish banks have started showing interest in crypto by offering crypto asset investments to their clients, with BankPozitif being the latest to join.

BankPozitif to Launch Crypto Custody Services with Taurus

Turkish digital bank BankPozitif is preparing to launch cryptocurrency custody services in collaboration with Swiss crypto platform Taurus. This marks the latest step for a financial institution in Turkey to engage with digital assets.

On March 4, BankPozitif announced a strategic partnership with Taurus, enabling its institutional clients to store crypto assets with the bank.

The service is expected to be available by June, initially supporting the top five cryptocurrencies by market cap, including Bitcoin, Ether, Tether USDt, XRP, and Solana.

A spokesperson for BankPozitif stated:

“Crypto is a very popular topic. We believe other players will also be active in the Turkish market. Our young population, high financial literacy, and digitally compatible user demographic lay the foundation for this,” the spokesperson said.

Temporary Crypto Approval from CMB

BankPozitif’s Chairman Erkan Kork announced that the digital bank has received a crypto custody license from the Capital Markets Board of Turkey (CMB).

Kork mentioned that their local subsidiary, PozitifKripto, has also received the service provider license. According to public CMB data, BankPozitif is among the 88 firms that have declared their intention to operate in accordance with Temporary Article 11 of the Capital Markets Law No. 6362. The authority emphasized that being listed does not imply that the firms are authorized under the relevant legislation.

Taurus Collaborates with Other Turkish Banks

In addition to BankPozitif, Taurus is working with three other Turkish banks, including Misyon Bank, which announced its crypto debut in March 2024, according to Taurus co-founder Lamine Brahimi.

“As demand for secure and compliant digital asset solutions grows, we are committed to supporting Turkey’s financial sector with institutional-grade infrastructure — backed by our local presence in Istanbul,” Brahimi said.

Other crypto-friendly banks in Turkey include Garanti BBVA and Akbank.

As previously mentioned, Turkey introduced new crypto regulations in the last week of 2024, targeting stricter Anti-Money Laundering measures and client identification policies.
