Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum and Bitcoin Magazine, speaks out on “casinos” and disappointment.
Vitalik Buterin: The Most Disappointing Thing for Me…
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin continues to criticize the narrow perspective within the crypto ecosystem. Previously, he opposed the idea that the “degen casino” model is the best product-market fit for crypto, arguing that the industry should focus on innovations that provide broader benefits rather than short-term profit-driven projects catering to a small group of users.
Despite criticism of the Ethereum Foundation’s large ETH sales and calls for leadership changes, Buterin defended the foundation’s strategy, emphasizing the principle of decentralization. However, the discussions did not end there.
Most recently, Buterin responded to a critique directed at him in the crypto space with the following statement:
Buterin: “The most disappointing thing for me recently was someone saying that Ethereum is bad and intolerant. Their reasoning? That we don’t show enough respect for the ‘casinos’ on the blockchain. Other chains, they claimed, are better because they are happy to accept any kind of application.”
Buterin’s remarks once again highlight Ethereum’s strong commitment to its long-term vision and the belief that projects should be built not just for speculative gains but to create real-world applications.
In his view, the potential of blockchain technology lies not in short-term profits but in providing real solutions in areas such as identity verification, data security, and applications that generate social benefits.
Reiterating that Ethereum’s core philosophy is financial inclusion and innovation, Buterin stressed the need for the industry to adopt a broader perspective. He also warned that projects solely focused on immediate profits could ultimately harm the ecosystem’s long-term growth.
According to Buterin, building a sustainable ecosystem requires using technology not just as an investment tool but as a means to create innovative solutions that benefit wider audiences.
