Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, has proposed that integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and prediction market technology could enhance the speed of generating Community Notes on X, formerly known as Twitter. Community Notes are user-generated annotations that add context to potentially misleading posts on the platform. These notes only appear if a sufficient number of contributors find them helpful, but Buterin has pointed out that the primary criticism is their delayed appearance, which might result in users being misled before accurate context is provided.
Speaking at Korea Blockchain Week 2024, Buterin suggested that prediction markets could be a key to accelerating the process. Prediction markets are platforms where users can place bets on specific outcomes, such as political events or sports results. Buterin used Polymarket, a decentralized prediction platform, as an example, explaining how these markets can be utilized to speed up decision-making processes.

Buterin’s idea involves using AI and bots to participate in prediction markets focused on determining whether a post on X warrants a Community Note. By betting on these outcomes, participants could help generate notes more quickly and accurately, as their predictions would be incentivized by potential rewards.
He explained that this approach could create a low-cost but fast mechanism to enhance the platform’s accuracy in real-time. The process would allow Community Notes to be published faster by leveraging the collective intelligence of users betting on the accuracy of context that needs to be added to posts.
