Blockchain researcher ZachXBT claims that there has been an increase in offline robberies targeting crypto traders. Stating that more crypto home raids have been reported in Western Europe in recent months, ZachXBT stated in a post on October 10 that victims have sent him many messages about such incidents.
According to data on GitHub, at least 15 offline crypto theft incidents have been recorded in the last year, and this number reached 17 in 2023. In 2021, 32 incidents were recorded. ZachXBT also claims that a user who was subjected to a $4.3 million crypto theft in June 2024 lost his personal information due to a data leak and that this was used for the robbery. After researching the victim’s address, the thieves entered the victim’s house under the pretext of a cargo delivery and threatened them to transfer the cryptocurrencies in their wallets to two addresses.
Following the increase in such incidents, ZachXBT warned that sharing personal information on social media should be avoided and crypto assets should be kept safe. He said that sharing information about crypto assets, especially with friends or on social media, can make a person a target.

Such robberies are on the rise around the world. For example, a man in Florida was convicted in June 2023 for a series of violent home invasions between late 2022 and mid-2023. In these incidents, victims were threatened and forced to transfer their cryptocurrencies. As ZachXBT emphasizes, offline crypto thefts pose a serious threat and crypto owners need to step up their security measures.
